Dear Friends,
This orphanage home in Batam houses 43 kids (23
girls & 20 boys) and is run by a kind-hearted Christian Indonesian lady. Though they had
just moved to this current location, the place is run down and does not provide a conducive living space for the orphans. There is no electricity, the flooring is rough and there are no wall partitions separating the girls from the boys. After our assessment, we felt that they are deserving of urgent assistance especially in the following areas
:-
i) Supply of electricity
ii) Supply of fans
iii) Flooring &
iv) Wood partitions
Our Lion Friends in Batam have agreed to share part
of the cost for general upgrading of the home. However, we appeal the same from
Friends of Riau to contribute in kind or cash to help them settle down in their
new home with the simple basic necessities which we normally take for granted.
During our brief visit, we were also pleasantly surprised that some of the kids are musically inclined. They are talented in their own rights and have in fact recorded a music cd which they sell to raise funds for the home. These would not be possible if not for some kind souls who have contributed to the cost of the musical equipment and the production of the cd. While we were there, we also delivered 2 big bags of clothings on behalf of Mrs. Kim, a member of the Lions Club Singapore. We thank Mrs. Kim for her compassion and generosity.
